Here are a few facts about diamonds that will blow your mind away. Some of this information is from the top diamond certification laboratories in the industry. (1) The Rarity Factor: One-carat diamonds are so rare because it takes 1,000,000 diamonds mined to obtain just one. 80% of diamonds that are taken out of the earth’s crust are industrial grade (used for drill bits, cutting other diamonds, lenses, lasers, etc). Only 20% of diamonds that are mined are considered “Gem Quality”. It takes 1,000,000 of these “gem quality” diamonds to obtain 1 Carat! “Gem Quality” as defined by the Gemlogical Institute of America (the Supreme Court of the diamond industry which sets the standards that jewelers follow world-wide) are diamonds that fall into the category “Flawless to I-3”. Anything under “I-3” is industrial grade.
In addition, the experts tell us that it takes 5,000,000 Gem Quality Diamonds Mined to obtain a Two-Carat Diamond. (They don’t know the odds for 3-carats or greater, but they feel that it’s around 15,000,000 diamonds mined to obtain a 3-carat). Think of it this way… it’s equivalent to having 1,000 piles of diamonds with 1,000 diamonds in each pile, and out of all those piles only ONE diamond will weigh one carat! (2) The Mining Factor: Diamonds basically come from three continents... Russia, Africa, and Australia. However, for your information, the first diamonds were found in India approximately 3,000 years ago. Unfortunately, the diamond mines in India have been mined out for centuries. The Industrial Revolution began around the 1900’s and in the last 100 years, we’ve taken more diamonds out of the earth’s crust than we did in the first 2,900 years! On average, miners will remove 250 tons of earth to find just one-carat! That’s like having 250 dump-trucks (parked bumper-to-bumper… that line of dump trucks will be over a mile long) full of dirt and earth just to to find a single one-carat diamond. It generally takes up to 3 years from the time a diamond is un-earthed to the time it reaches your jeweler's showcases. (3) The Antique Factor: Did you know that:
(4) The Endurance Factor: What if you could purchase the perfect house with the perfect floor-plan, that you can live in your whole life. You can raise a couple of children in it and when you’re done, you can pass it down to the next generation. And here’s the best part…it will never need painting, never need carpeting, never need any upkeep because it’s indestructible. In fact, it looks the same way 50 years from now as it did when the carpenters first finished it. What would you pay for a house like that? Or, what if you could buy your dream car, let it run all day, with the A/C on and never have to change the oil, never replace the tires, never worry about door dings or have to repaint it. In fact, you could let it run for 18 years and then pass it down to the next generation and it would be exactly like it was the day you bought it… because it’s indestructible. "other than a diamond" I think about something you use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for your whole life approximately 40–60 years and it’s just like it was the day you bought it when you hand it down to the next generation.
(5) The Investment Factor: Since the 1940’s Diamonds have doubled in value every 10 years. Diamonds increase in value averaging over 7% a year. They are an investment in somebody you love. They are an investment in your future, in a commitment, in hope, life, forever, and memories. Diamonds are PRICELESS. Interesting History of Diamonds
Interesting Jewelry Fact: Did you know that the shape and cut of a diamond not only affects how big and brilliant the diamond looks, it also reveals a lot about the personality trait of the owner. A 25-year study... that included over 50,000 people was conducted by a New York diamond appraiser name Saul Spero. He developed a system that accurately predicted the personality types of people based on their top three choices of diamond shapes.
